There is no better way to begin a new year with a 6km run followed by a green smoothie. I have officially signed myself up for the Abbotsford Run for Water marathon this coming May and I am truly excited to begin my training. I never considered running a full marathon as I thought it would be way too intense for me but I am prepared for the challenge.
I have had good intentions in the last couple months to post more artwork but sadly I have been preoccupied. Until today. I have discovered in the last few years I tend to focus on the connection I have with my surroundings and the concern and sustainability of earth. Living in BC is certainly much different than Ontario. BC has the most amazing mountainous backdrops which I cannot help but feel linked to physically and metaphysically.
Recently I began making my own kombucha and while reading tips online I came across the Ted talk Suzanne Lee: Grow your own clothes. Suzanne is a fashion designer who has discovered a fascinating way to grow kombucha and use the cellulose like a fabric or vegetable leather.
I hope to continue to post more often. I am always pleased to look back on my garden photos from previously years and remember the warm summer days and fresh veggies. Anyhow, happy beginnings.

i am mountain.

I imagine myself mountainous, walking amongst the Rockies and seeing clear past the woodlands and waterways. I rest my back against the highlands and then lay down to transform and morph into the rolling landscape.
This series of 3 explores the idea of creative visualization. Through imagination I can begin to connect to the mountains that surround me and identify with the similarities we share. The human body, both raw and imperfect, present the same qualities found in nature - and of that of mountains.

The study of trees represents a passage of time. Throughout the life of a tree, it faces intense weather changes from drought to floods. Each year this passage imprints a new memory which tells a story of its life.
The passing of my brother has left a significant imprint on my life, as well as my family. His death was sudden and tragic. But even though he is no longer here physically, I believe his memory continues to live on - within my mother, my father, my sister and myself.
Through the exploration of block printing, this piece combines the memory of my brother as a visual element. His eyes, which have merged into each portrait, represents a childhood memory, a smile, a laugh, and an adventure we shared. Time begins with the day we where born and continues to create a new layer year after year - as a living memory.

I dream of a world where animals and humans live in harmony. A world where the value of life cannot and will not be discriminated based on size, species or dialect.
As a vegan and animal rights activist, the issues surrounding animal rights is a growing matter. To most meat eaters, animals are viewed as a food source and the process from farm to slaughterhouse to dinner plate is essentially lost.
There no words to properly describe the quality of life for factory farmed animals and aquaculture (underwater factory farming). Life, or to live means to remain alive and to draw breath. Freedom means to act, speak or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. The state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. Factory farmed animals have no life and certainly no freedom.
We [humans] have created this world where we are superior to all other living creatures. However, we [humans] can also work together to change the way those animals are treated and mistreated. Sign petitions, speak your mind and make decisions in accordance to what is morally right and fair.

| garbage animals. |
The growth of urbanization has redesigned boundaries between humans and animals. The earth is in a constant shift of development which in turn leaves a shrinking amount of space for animals to live within and unpolluted areas for animals to survive. To witness a wild animal has become a rare and special occurrence.
However, what if these rare occurrences no longer existed but only to leave behind a shadow of what was. Without animals the earth would become a barren and desolate world where we would no longer have fruiting trees and lush vegetation. In the end, we would no longer exist.
The series of 3 illustrates a fear for a fleeting animal existence. A fear that one day the only memory of a crow is captured through a garbage bag silhouette stuck in a fence.
